The Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI) brings international Human Rights Observers – also known as Ecumenical Accompaniers (EAs )- to East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Israel to provide protective presence to vulnerable communities, monitor and report human rights violations and show solidarity to Palestinians and Israelis working non-violently for a just peace.
EAPPI was founded in response to a call from the Heads of Churches and Human Rights Organisations in Jerusalem. Since 2002 over 1500 international volunteers from 22 countries have served as Ecumenical Accompaniers (EAs).
Participation of Swiss volunteers in EAPPI is made possible by the patronage of the Protestant Church in Switzerland (EKS, former SEK) and Swiss Church Aid (HEKS). Peace Watch Switzerland (PWS) is responsible for the operational part of the madate, which inlcudes the selection, training and sending of Swiss Human Rights Observers. As of 2020 PWS has sent around 200 Human Rights Accompaniers to Palestine/Israel.
